After graduating from LSU in Baton Rouge, LA, Ashley Forrestier returned to New Orleans to pursue her singing career. Unfortunately, her singing plans were abruptly halted by the citywide destruction of N.O. caused by Hurricane Katrina. After relocating to Houston, Texas in 2005, Ashley Forrestier began performing locally and posting videos of her cover songs on Youtube and Facebook. Ashley’s first Houston performance was in October 2009 at the PPR 101 – Professional Public Relations Conference in Houston, TX.
After several collaborations, Forrestier began writing and recording material for her solo project. For her first solo effort, she was inspired by the 2010 NFC playoff win of the Super Bowl bound, New Orleans Saints. On Feb. 1, 2010, she released the Saints victory celebration single, “Who Dat (Going to the Super Bowl)“. In a press interview for the song, Forrestier was quoted as saying:
“New Orleans is called the Big Easy for a reason. It’s BIG on music, fun, great food and unmatched hospitality; and it’s so EASY to love its culture, character and especially the people. I’ve longed to write a song about a place I’m proud to call home. The Saints’ win just threw that one in my lap. I was motivated to give them a theme song!”
The song garnered the attention of local news, sports stations and magazines, which led to performances on KHOU-11 News and ESPN 97.5 The Ticket along with articles by Sister 2 Sister Magazine, EartoDaStreetz.com, and AllHipHop.com contributing writer, Devaughn Douglas. After the actual New Orleans Saint’s Superbowl Victory, Forrestier also released the follow-up remix entitled, “Who Dat (Superbowl Victory Remix)” through BooKoo Beats.
On June 8, 2010, Forrestier released her first official single, “I Am Creole” produced by the MostCold. The upbeat, Creole anthem pays tribute to her Creole roots through the use of Louisiana Creole folklore, culture & language. The song, “I AM CREOLE” is included on “The Creole1Queen EP” which was released through the imprint, MostCold Digital. Prior to release, Forrestier was invited to be a guest on the hour-long broadcast of IAMCREOLE Radio where she debuted the song and spoke about her Louisiana Creole Heritage.
